In Jim Lynch's coming-of-age adventure, 13-year-old Miles escapes the fallout of his parents' impending divorce by

Katherine Helmond, best known for playing the ditzy Jessica Fletcher in Soap, has made a
career out of character acting. This play is no exception: her role as an ageing psychic of questionable ability permits
her trademark dark humour to shine, but there is also a deep vein of sadness pulsing through the story. It's a coming
of-age drama for the 13-year-old boy at the heart of the play, but an end-of-an-age drama for Helmond's character. A
beautiful piece of work.

When the sun goes down, 13-year-old Miles O'Malley loves to paddle his kayak round the
Pacific coast near his home on Skookumchuck Bay. One night, as he is looking for rare sea creatures to flog to the local
aquarium, he comes across a startling sight - a giant squid. A news team arrives to report on the monster and Miles
becomes a local celebrity. Before you know it, the area is abuzz with predictions of freak high tides and even more
amazing discoveries. The Highest Tide, adapted by Rebecca Trick-Walker from Jim Lynch's award-winning novel, stars
Forrest Landis and Katherine Helmond.
